IMMERSION IN KHMER CULTURE
From Siem Reap grandiose temples to the lakeside villages on Tonle Sap
Kep was created in 1908 by the French and its original name was Kep-sur-Mer. The seaside resort was a popular one, located at the junction 30 km from the Vietnam border post and 30 km from Kampot further west. In the 1960s, the city was prosperous and considered one of the most prestigious cities in Southeast Asia. The French elite used to come here to spend their holidays.
Nowadays, Kep is an incredible city that conveys tranquility and renewal. In recent years, many travelers have settled there, having fallen in love with the city. It’s the perfect place to rest and relax. You can sunbathe quietly on its beach and also visit the crab market, rabbit island and the fishing villages. Seafood, fragrant curries, and other cuisine seasoned with pepper and salt from Kampot on the market square is what symbolizes Kep the most.
Activities in Kep are available throughout the year but the rainy season (between May and October) hinders tourist activity. The summer is very hot and humid (June, July, August) with a temperature of 30°C to 36°C. Most travelers prefer to come in the dry season (November to March)
