Overview of Vietnam

The country which appears in the shape of the dragon is a destination of choice to have a wonderful journey. You’ll have a chance to authentically experience the richness in Vietnamese culture, breath-taking landscapes, idyllic tropical islands, diverse ethnic groups and hectic cities.

Mountains and hills cover almost all of Vietnam with the Mount Fansipan as the highest peak located in the far north-west. The Truong Son Mountains (Annamite Cordillera) form the highlands along the borders with Laos and Cambodia.

As told in legend, Vietnamese people are the descendants of the sacred, powerful Dragon, this is proved by thousands of years successful defending the country and fighting against enemies to gain back the peace, independence and freedom. During a millennium under Chinese dynasty rule, even though China made huge effort to achieve complete Sinicization through the imposition of Chinese culture, customs, politics, Vietnamese people still managed to keep their values, traditions and foremost, their language. 

Vietnamese people always remain loyal to two principles: gaining independence and living in freedom. In the French war, in order to keep these values, the country had to pay a very high cost as the three young Emperors, respectively Ham Nghi, Thanh Thai, Duy Tan had to face deportation and many more nationalists were also decapitated. Despite such sorrow, their ardor for revolt was not diminished and eventually it led to the end of the French occupation with the decisive victory of Viet Minh at Dien Bien Phu (1954). 

During the American war, 13 million tons of bomb were dropped and 60 million liters of herbicides were sprayed to destroy the land but they failed to destroy the spirit of the Viet.  April 30th, 1975 marked the fall of Saigon government and the liberation of Vietnam’s southern part.
