IMMERSION IN KHMER CULTURE
From Siem Reap grandiose temples to the lakeside villages on Tonle Sap
Kampong Thom province is located in central Cambodia and is the second largest province in the country. This is where you will find the fascinating Angkorian sites including the popular Sambor Prei Kuk. The province will amaze nature and culture enthusiasts with its beautiful lakes, rivers, forests, plains and mountains and its many ancient temples. Kampong Thom is located around 200 km from Phnom Penh, capital of Cambodia, 110 km from Kampong Cham and 150 km from Siem Reap.
As every other province of Cambodia, Kampong Thom can be visited all year long. However, during the rainy season, some rural dirt roads are almost impassable. The best months to visit are in December and January while the hottest month is in April.
A short transfer by car will take you there. The tour, a 2-hour hike, will take you through a lovely landscape and small villages with friendly locals. The pre-Angkorian site dates back to the beginning of the 7th century and was the capital of Chenla-Uni. Unlike Angkor, the temples were built from bricks and sandstone. The complex consists of three main groups: Central Group, Southern Group, Northern Group, all covered by a shady forest.
